(KOBA FINANCES) – In Côte d’Ivoire, the General Directorate of the Treasury and Public Accounting has successfully carried out a significant operation on the financial market of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the institution raised an impressive 94.913 billion CFA francs through a simultaneous auction of Treasury bonds with maturities of 3, 5, and 7 years.
This transaction, organized in collaboration with UMOA-Titres, highlights the Treasury’s ability to attract investors despite a sometimes challenging economic environment.
Initially, the issuer had offered a total of 150 billion CFA francs for auction, reflecting its determination to support the country’s economic development through carefully planned investments. Investor interest, however, exceeded expectations, with total bids reaching 262.351 billion CFA francs. This strong demand illustrates both the confidence of economic actors in Côte d’Ivoire’s financial stability and the attractiveness of the instruments offered. As a result, the coverage rate of the initial amount reached an impressive 174.90%, underscoring investor enthusiasm and commitment to regional economic growth.
The final amount retained stood at 94.913 billion CFA francs, exclusively allocated to the 3-year and 7-year bonds, signaling a marked preference among investors for these longer-term instruments. Conversely, rejected bids totaled 167.43 billion CFA francs, a substantial figure that reflects the high level of demand in this market. This outcome translates into an absorption rate of 36.18%, highlighting both the strength of investments in these securities and the gap between accepted and rejected bids.
Investors whose bids were accepted will benefit from attractive returns: a weighted average yield of 6.32% for the 3-year bonds and 6.31% for the 7-year bonds. This slight difference underscores the dynamics of interest rates in long-term placements, which may influence future investment decisions in the market.
The Ivorian Treasury has made a firm commitment regarding the repayment of the capital on these bonds. Repayments will be made on the first business day following the maturity dates, specifically January 28, 2029 for the 3-year bonds and January 28, 2033 for the 7-year bonds.
Interest payments will be made annually, with rates set at 5.35% for the 3-year bonds and 5.85% for the 7-year bonds. These payments will begin at the end of the first year following issuance, ensuring investors a regular and predictable return on investment.
